- Correction: Water Bill due 7/31/25 NOT 6/30/25by Amber Sprague
Many apologies for the typo!
A reminder: For a single-family dwelling, the quarterly bill of $270 is the base pay for the current quarter of July, August, September (thus “paying ahead”). This provides 5,000 gallons per month of water usage. Your quarterly bill also includes the actual water usage from the meter readings three months prior (offset by one month): 2/28/25-5/31/25. If there were any water overages beyond the 5,000 gallons per month, the statement would include that charge at $3.15 per 1,000 gallons of water used.
AutoPay can be set up through the online Customer Portal: https://oceanside.secure.munibilling.com or by contacting Amber in the OWD office at 503-842-0370 or office@owd-oregon.org. The office is open from 9am-12pm Monday through Friday for any questions or assistance.

- Update on Cape Meares Water Conservationby Amber Sprague
The replacement valve was successfully installed at the Cape Meares treatment plant Wednesday evening. Water from Coleman Creek is currently being treated and stored in the Cape Meares reservoir. At the point when the repair was completed the level was 6.3 feet or about 25% capacity. This meant that the conservation efforts by Cape Meares residents were successful and greatly appreciated. Thank you. Conservation signs will be pulled this afternoon, Friday May 30th.
- PLEASE CONSERVE WATER IN CAPE MEARES UNTIL FURTHER NOTICEby admin
Late on May 23 a critical pressure reducer valve failed at the Cape Meares Treatment plant which means water from Coleman Creek cannot be treated. Attempts were made to overnight the valve for an emergency repair, but the Memorial Day holiday has made this impossible. The soonest the repair can be made is next Tuesday. Since the Cape Meares tank was filled to capacity on Friday in preparation for the holiday sufficient water should be available if conservation measures are followed. Water use will be monitored. The water district regrets this inconvenience. WATER USAGE IN OCEANSIDE IS NOT AFFECTED.

- Treatment Plants for Oceanside Water Districtby admin
The Oceanside Water District currently supports two separate water treatment plants. The larger of the two serves Oceanside and is located north of Oceanside along the Loop Road. The second treatment plant is for Cape Meares and is located further north on the Loop Road near the intersection of the Loop Road with Bayocean Road.
The tap water for Oceanside originates high up on Mt. Meares, emanating from pristine, spring-fed, wetlands. Gradually this
water in Short creek flows west towards the Pacific Ocean .As part of the greater Netarts Bay/Sand Lake/Neskowin Creek Watershed in the Wilson-Trask-Nestucca Sub-Basin, Short Creek water is collected in an impoundment pond where it settles out impurities collected along the way and is ready to be pumped to the treatment plant for processing. .For Cape Meares the raw water is drawn from Coleman Creek and is carefully monitored for a number of issues: 1) Biological contaminants such as cryptosporidium, and coliform, 2) Turbidity and insoluble chemical contaminants mainly due to runoff from rainfall in the watershed or landslides, and 3) Organic and inorganic chemical pollutants due to both naturally occurring compounds in the soil, and man-made processes such as the use of herbicides to control weeds throughout the watershed. Testing to insure against these problems is carried out using samples drawn by the OWD, and analyzed by an independent laboratory, under the direction of the Oregon Health
Authority (OHA).The District recently completed an extensive upgrade of the distribution piping system throughout the district, resulting in increased flow levels and significant reduction in water loss due to leaks.
